All of the April rain in New York forced us to stay inside and curl up with a good Netflix film, and Fashion Film Friday was born. Now for our first feature :
Let’s see, a murder mystery thriller (produced by Sophia Lauren’s husband) about a fashion photographer that takes place in 1960’s Swinging London and features Jane Birkin and Veruschka…ofcourse, it was destined to be a Fashion Film classic. One of the seminal films of the 1960’s Blow-Up is worth watching for the visual time capsule aspect alone, but there is more here – a loose plot and philosophical questions to explore : What is reality? Is what we perceive “real”. The film has rightly been called the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle with bell-bottoms. Although not for everyone (it gets a bit abstract and the pacing can be tedious for a modern audience), the inspired art direction is enough to make it interesting.
